HAVE YOU EVER WORKED FOR AN IDIOT? While the characters and events in this book are fictitious, most people will point to at least one story and say, "That happened to me" or "I worked for that Idiot." WHY BUY THE BOOK? The current book presents examples as though a manager would actually adopt these, with this adoption creating an Idiot manager. A sampling of some lessons for managers: If you can't dazzle them with brillance, then confuse them with the absurd. A happy employee is a conspiring employee. When an employee makes an accusation, ask a question. This diverts attention from you and raises the issue of whether the employee is capable of knowing anything. If the company wanted employees to have personal lives, then it would have issued personal lives. Through the use of mental torture, you can achieve both physical and mental disturbances in employees, yet, you're not liable for physical torture. If you've ever worked for an idiot, then this book will hopefully provide some insight into the making of an idiot manager and in the process provide some laughter.

The costs of employee turnover can be staggering. Not only do they include fully-loaded payroll costs of a vacant position, but they can also rack up overtime and consume managers’ time to recruit and train new hires. Add in lost productivity, and you have a major problem. Reducing employee turnover will clearly improve how your business functions and performs financially. In Turning Turnover Around, Mark Vonrhein synthesizes years of experience working with hundreds of entry-level employees. Vonrhein has successfully used a five-point plan—the Performance Compensation Program—to increase productivity, keep employees happy, and increase profitability. The Plan is straightforward. Start entry-level employees below industry average salaries, then clearly define performance goals and post performance results daily. Then, give feedback on a regular basis, and reward your high-performers with incremental, and typically more frequent, pay raises. To supplement his program, Vonrhein provides wage models that help you match an employee’s pay level to his or her performance. He also shares a wealth of information on the program’s impact, which ranges from more engaged and productive workers, to a healthier bottom line. Combine Vonrhein’s program with his “management tune-up” tips and you’ll soon see turnover turning around.

Civil War In The American Workplace is a book that appeals to organization leaders, managers and employees. In Dr. Rosene’s extensive business consultations, she has identified employee work conflicts as the main reason employees do not perform up to their ability. Employee negativity adversely impacts organization ability to compete and survive the 21st century economic challenges. Adding to the worker negativity challenge, business leaders and professionals tend to be stymied by worker conflicts. The challenge facing business and professional leaders is they must find ways to understand the origins of employee conflict before they can unlock the keys to productive and positive employees. Leaders and business professionals applying correct motivators for their workers will create a willingness among their employee groups to become high producers. Civil War In The American Workplace is just the business tool for leaders and professionals, to better understand their worker’s preferred behavioral styles, and thus their beliefs as applied to the workplace. When business leaders understand their employee preferred behavioral styles, they can take the mystery out of work conflict. Business leaders and professionals who possess the knowledge for resolving work conflicts found in this book will be those individuals who will drive organizations that thrive in these tumultuous economic times.

The enneagram is a proven personality typology that describes nine different personality types. The theory of the enneagram is that each person belongs to one of these nine types. Each type employs a specific strategy for success, which however also has its drawbacks. The enneagram is applied in a variety of ways in management, for instance in team-building, coaching, management development and organizational change. This book provides an introduction to the enneagram and its potential for application within the daily practice of managers and professionals. The book not only helps to provide insight into human behavior within organizations, it is above all an encouragement to all those who wish to gain deeper knowledge about themselves and about the motivation for human behavior. Since 1993, Oscar David has introduced the enneagram to thousands of managers and professionals in a large number of international organizations. This book expresses, in part, the result of his broad practical experience and knowledge.
