Paycheck to Paycheck is an inspiring tribute to the working class and a global kind of patriotic book which motivates and sends a supportive message straight to the heart of millions. Whether we envision our parents, their roots, blood, sweat and tears or our own pathways of labor to date, the reader feels connected. Living from paycheck to paycheck is a way of life for many people, some by choice, some by necessity. "Money makes the world go 'round." But the author astutely and poignantly points out that, "money isn't everything." In a world of continued economic flux, one thing remains almost certain. Paychecks will come and go. Everywhere the author goes, we seem to travel there too, momentarily. "Whether in a home or on the streets of Indiana, from the beauty shops to the corner candy store." citizens talk while the author and reader listens. Paycheck to Paycheck, truly a spirited voice for the past, present and centuries to come.

Simple, creative solutions can be worth more than gold. And all of us can learn how to become more creative. All we have to do is master and use the six specific thought processes or "winning strategies" creative individuals instinctively employ when they make major breakthroughs. In this book those winning strategies are arranged on the arc of creativity, which forms the organizing structure for the six middle chapters. The first chapter tells you how to get yourself into the proper frame of mind to become more creative, how to surround yourself with supportive people, and how to persuade them to help you polish and perfect your midas-touch solutions. Each of the six middle chapters opens with a description of a billion-dollar breakthrough made by a single individual armed with one simple, creative solutioon. The next part describes the specific thought process ("winning strategy") that individual used, and the last part explains how you can use that same thought process in developing solutions to your own personal and professional problems. The final chapterr shows you how to polish and refine your most promising solutions and how to entice your colleagues to help you convert them into 24-carat gold. Creative solutions area a jewel-like commodity in today's exciting marketplace of ideas. By mastering and using the six winning strategies on the arc of creativity, you can lead a more stimulating life, help America's competitive posture, and enhance the value of your own career.

Then Frank said something that changed my life-one of the first things he'd said in years that truly made sense to me. "Maybe you should start your own business, Chuck." He shrugged his shoulders and toyed with the closely shaved hair at his temples, the only hair remaining on his otherwise balding skull. "You're sharp, a great writer, great creative guy. You've led teams here a number of times and people seem to like you." My dread turned to confusion, even mild irritation. "Start my own business? How? I don't have any real savings, I don't manufacture anything, I don't know the first thing about running a company " I stopped as Frank put up his hand to interrupt. "Your greatest adversary is the man in the mirror." What Charlie didn't realize as he was losing his job was the amazing opportunity ahead of him. His time was now! Charlie had always dreamed of running his own business, being his own boss, and finally getting paid for his effort. In the following months Charlie built his business foundation from the ground up. Marketing, accounting, manufacturing, franchising and financing are just some of the topics Charlie tackles in his pursuit of the perfect business plan. Join Charlie on his journey of selecting a business and learn how his principles can help you in selecting your business. Now, it's my turn to challenge you-what's keeping you from starting your own business? Fear of failure? A lack of funds? No expertise? Let me tell you YOUR TIME IS NOW!

Many pupils were studying meditation under the Zen master Sengai. One of them used to arise at night, climb over the temple wall, and go to town on a pleasure jaunt. Sengai, inspecting the dormitory quarters, found this pupil missing one night and also discovered the high stool he had used to scale the wall. Sengai removed the stool and knelt in its place. When the wanderer returned, not knowing that Sengai was the stool, he put his feet on the master's head and jumped down into the grounds. Discovering what he had done, he was aghast. Sengai said, "It is very chilly in the early morning. Do be careful not to catch cold." The pupil never went out at night again. (Adapted from Zen Flesh, Zen Bones compiled by Paul Reps)

Susan P. Gantt, Ph.D., CGP, ABPP, is the Director of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute, a psychologist in private practice in Atlanta, and a faculty member in the Emory University School of Medicine. Yvonne Agazarian, Ed.D., FAGPA, CGP developed a theory of living human systems and its systems-centered practice and founded the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute. She received the Group Psychologist of the year award from the American Psychological Association in 1997. As this book amply demonstrates, SCT has turned out to have powerful organizational applications. With its theory of living human systems rather than a separate theory of organizations or of organizational behavior, it uses concepts that easily map onto organizational life. It looks at systems as a whole but also in parts. It stresses the importance of understanding boundaries and contexts. It continually focuses on task, and, perhaps, most important of all, it offers a sophisticated understanding of roles, which includes work roles in organizations. It well may be, as more consultants working in organizations become more familiar with the concepts and methods SCT offers, the SCT approach will come to seem indispensable to the resolution of conflict. -Ken Eisold, Ph.D. Yvonne Agazarian has long been established as one of the major theoreticians within group and organizational psychology. In this book, she and Susan Gantt have gathered together enriching and stimulating papers within the SCT tradition with the aim of showing us how it works in practice. They have certainly succeeded. SCT is about creating a new culture in which both people and the aims of the organization are strengthened and supported. For those working with organizations, either as leaders or consultants, this book will prove to be a stimulating and reliable companion. -Christer Sandahl, Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME), Karolinska Institute, Stockholm

Oh no! Not another book on Leadership. Even Jim Weaver admits that leadership books abound. Each employs it own unique approach to introduce, explain, and evaluate the techniques of leadership, and to suggest strategies which will work, and to "pooh-pooh" those that won"t. In some respects Follow What Leader? may be no different than the others. But Jim Weaver's writing style makes this book entertaining, easy-to-read, and valuable to any manager who is eager to apply some logical common sense methods to leading an organization. Filled with interesting stories and examples, this primer will prove to be an excellent source of "hip-pocket" assistance for the manager who leads others, and seeks to be better than the average bear at what they do.
