My recollections of the first time I entered the spacious, bustling kitchen of Villa Joe's restaurant brings me back a long stretch of years. I was twenty years old when I stepped into the dynamic heart of the restaurant. I was simply dazzled by the abundance of food, cooked and uncooked, in escalating stages of preparation, all being assembled, concocted, confected into forms creatively visual and delectable. As a promising fashion designer I was enthralled by the scene so artistic in my eyes. I saw a palette of colors, the modeling of textures and contours as if designed and draped at a couturier's studio. I had a sixth sense I would like to be a part of this activity.

My husband Frank's mother was busy at the antipasto table sorting salad greens, chicory and arugula. Frank introduced me to her. I said, "Hello, may I help you?"

You may find yourself matching recipes with the lighthearted fables in my husband's memoir, A Remembrance of a Restaurant; A Decameron of Dining, or his other works, Under Blue Skies of Naples, Chez Dogs, and Naples of Salvatore DiGiacomo, which might grant a realized recipe added piquancy. For your convenience I have charted correspondences on the last page.

Sex is a popular topic. We think about it, read about it, talk about it, hear about it, and want more of it, but in our on-the-go society we hardly ever take the time to actually have it! From a single bunch of grapes to a sensual feast complete with expert wine pairings, learn how to tap into your own percolating primal urges-and those of your partner. Tease and please yourself, and your partner, with aphrodisiacs to eat and drink, erotic body products, spas, games, music, and more.

From Erotic Foods:
"On a recent research mission, I had a food orgasm with Argentinean beef. Freshly embarked on the MS Silver Wind and craving comfort food after a long flight and a bad meal in Rio, I ordered a cheeseburger to my cabin. One bite had me oohing, ahhing, and moaning so much that my new neighbors leaned over their balconies to see what was going on."

Everyone yearns for la dolce vita, the sweet life. Grape goddess Catherine Fallis demystifies, clarifies, and charts out a course for immediate results-a richer, more visceral, sensually charged daily life.

I took a 17-year roller coaster ride inside the riotous world of food service, and along with all the ups and downs I learned that everybody loves soup. I searched for soup ideas online, in magazines and books, at other restaurants, from food brokers, relatives, friends, and on vacations. But these soups had to be relatively easy to prepare and the ingredients couldn't be hard to find or obscure.

These are "BIG BATCH" soup recipes developed for a large gathering, a restaurant or lunch counter business, a firehouse, a benefit or fundraiser operation, a large family or a family reunion. Most of these recipes are uncomplicated and use basic cooking procedures with which you'll be familiar. There are no tricks, no fancy steps and stages, and they rarely require ingredients for which you'll need to go out and search. The soups are marked as meat soups (M), no meat soups or vegetarian (V), and fish and/or shellfish soups (F). There is a large variety of soups included in this collection, for example, rich and creamy vegetarian Yellow Velvet from yellow squash and corn, and thick but basic Portuguese Kale made with lentils and sausage. You'll find the subtle flavors of a West African Peanut Chicken Soup in this book, and it's very easy to make.
