As a Christian woman, who suffered years of emotional abuse from my preaching spouse, I have discovered that I'm not alone. Millions of Christian women stay in an abusive marriage because they are taught it is a sin to get a divorce. As much as the Lord doesn't like divorce, He does not want us to live in an abusive marriage. You don't have to stay there and suffer in silence, while your husband has an affair, shows severe mood swings, and verbally abuse you, and all this is before he get up the preach to the congregation. We are princess of the King; we deserve the best that our Father has to offer. Jesus came to save us from our sins, but he also came to heal us, to provide for us, be it physically or emotionally. God is still delivering his people from the hands of Pharaoh today. I wanted to let women know that there is someone who understands and who's been there. As I frantically search within the church walls for a woman who would give me the right advice and all I ran up against are women who stayed until their spouse died or they are still in the abusive marriage. The others never had an abusive marriage and didn't know what to say. Whether you stay or go, this book is not to help you make up your mind, but to just share my personal discover of my marriage to a minister, that know matter how I tried to keep it together, fell apart anyway. Be encouraged and seek the Lord's guidance and your life. GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL.

This is the shocking but true story of a young woman's fall to drug addiction and the many problems, humiliations, abuses, and heartaches it has caused in her life. It's the story of a young girl who, in order to calm the pain of being molested and seeing her parents break up, took to the streets.

When LET'S STOP DESTROYING OUR CHILDREN was first published, it was a lonely book. It was the first of its kind: there was no other comprehensive, popularly written book of this type. While other books on one difficult aspect or another of childhood (accidents, child abuse, juvenile justice) had been published, none encompassed the entire spectrum of the terrible aspects of childhood that faced a good many youngsters. And the very notion of children's rights had been the province of the professionals or the politicians of the United Nations. The book had enormous publicity and made a major difference in many areas. But, for years, it has been the dream of the author to update this seminal volume, the first on society's abuse of children. Finally, with the advent of a pioneering publisher, it was possible to reprint the original book and include THEN AND NOW, a major new review of the conditions in the book, and give many direct comparisons with those in the last few years. The rights of children will be advanced by the spread of information about why and how we, as a society, are still abusing children and what can be done about it.

This is a true story (part two of my story) written to give hope to anyone who has, or is now, dealing with some form of abuse. This book allows the reader to experience the painful process of reliving flashbacks, memories and nightmares. Opening old wounds so that I could heal required a lot of effort and determination. The devastation of abuse at the hands of my parents and in other relationships and my steps to survive is clearly told. My parents programming was so strong that my brothers and I continued playing our role's even as adults. Everyone in the small town where I grew up thought we were a normal loving family. The chain of people abuse can effect throughout our lifetime is endless. This book is not a plea for sympathy. My goal is increased awareness at the chain of injustice brought on by all forms of abuse. Chains can be broken / One link at a time.

By Addie N. Colbourne
In his heartrending autobiography, Addie Nelson Colbourne shares his story of physical abuse, childhood slavery, and the grief of losing both parents at a young age—only to reach success later in life, despite a lack of education and unconditional love. Colbourne was born as one of nine brothers in an outport community in Newfoundland, Canada. His father was a hard-working, religious man, but unfortunately, he died from an illness at an early age, leaving Colbourne in the care of his mother who induced daily beatings with hunks of birchwood, boots, or broom handles. After his mother died a few years later, Colbourne shares the details of his agonizing separation from his siblings and his new life with a foster family, where he was expected to supplement the family income by working as a fisherman. Colbourne finally achieved independence when he turned eighteen, quit school, and set out on a journey to Montreal to look for work and a fresh start. Despite the hardships he suffered as a young man, Addie Colbourne has achieved much and loved many—making his story of perseverance, courage, and faith a model for helping others see what is truly important in life.
