According to the National Institute of Health Statistics, dizziness will occur in 70% of the nations population at sometime in their lives. People who experience dizziness and imbalance aren't always truly understood.

In Dizzy Spell: Living & Coping with an Inner Ear Disorder, Gillian Barnett shares a personal account of her experiences with a disabling, invisible inner ear disorder called labyrinthitis, which left her imbalanced and dizzy for over two years.

Her story, research and experience as a "dizzy patient" help other patients' and people who suffer from balance and inner ear disorders to cope. It gives loved ones and health professionals a better understanding through a "patient's" perspective.

Gillian gives advice on how she "survived" and made it through rough dizzy patches.

This book includes advice that can help patients to return to normal everyday lives.

Topics include:

  • Balance as a "sixth" sense
  • Creating a "survival" kit
  • Different balance tests available

From a story about Vincent Van Gogh, the famous painter, who cut off his ear to the author's own personal "dizzy" journal, Dizzy Spell: Living & Coping with an Inner Ear Disorder uplifts and helps other "dizzy" patients get their lives back to normal.

Judy Short had a root canal in the morning and learned that afternoon that she had flunked her mammogram. She describes it as "Quite possibly one of the worst days of my life."

Everyone wants to meet Judy's Killer Bunny (K.B.)! He is the visualization aid that she used to help in her battle with breast cancer. Judy envisioned that her white blood cells were Killer Bunnies, attacking and eating the cancer cells. Then, since they were rabbits, they reproduced quickly -- which is the goal for the body's immune system, for white cells to reproduce and effectively fight off disease. Judy's visualization took physical form as you can see from the cover photo.

This isn't just another woman's story about breast cancer -- it is about hoping and coping and maintaining a positive outlook and sense of humor throughout the experience.

Judy shares the practical insights she learned during her mastectomy, breast reconstruction and chemotherapy. She frankly addresses the gambit of emotions from anger and fear to hope and defiance. More than 185,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year -- that is one in eight. This book is for them and for all cancer patients, their families and their friends.

In the summer of 1987 on my way to California I visited a friend in New York. He invited me to accompany him to Pineridge Reservation in South Dakota where he planned to go on a traditional vision quest, and this journey changed my life. I lived in Berlin, Germany at the time and had been suffering since 4 years from severe panic attacks. After participating in a wonderful healing ceremony for a little girl who had been born with panic in her soul, and could never be approached by anyone but her mother, and who now smiled radiantly at us, free of fear - after this miracle the medicine man offered to do a ceremony for me. I was surprised. Why, did I need a healing? So used was I to my suffering that I could not imagine why I should need any help. And besides, out there on the reservation there was so much going on that was new and miraculous for me that I never had a panic attack. But since I did not want to disappoint him after this generous offer I agreed, and after the ceremony he conducted I never suffered another panic attack. In addition the book contains the medicine man's story, the fascinating account of a vision quest, and the very touching story of a man who was healed from Hodgkin's Disease after his doctors had given up on him.

My main purpose in writing this book has been to share my experiences and triumphs with my fellow victims of rheumatoid arthritis. We don't have to be ashamed or embarrassed just because we have rheumatoid arthritis. The disease is not a crime or sin. It does, however, sentence us to life imprisonment. But there are ways to parole ourselves from this prison. Together we can combat this terrible disease with phenomenal results. I am living proof. Am I so different? Don't we all in the end have to learn patience and more patience, discipline and tenacity? My advice couldn't be simpler: "Think positive, think possibility and never give up." My RA is about as severe as it gets, but even with all my pain in the early years, I've managed to live a happy, full life. I'd even say "a normal life"-but who's normal? No one! My hope is that my experience will give you shortcuts for finding the normal life unique to you.

As a family doctor, I realize that a great “teacher” for me has been the struggles of my patients. As a photographer, I realize that my greatest teacher is nature. This book originates from the synthesis of these two realizations. Within the confines of an exam room or hospital bed, patients talk about their struggles with doctors and nurses. I hear two common question as patients grapple with life, “Why me?” and “How do I emotionally get through this problem of mine?” Though the names and circumstances have been altered to protect identities, I attempt to answer these questions through the inspiration of my patients and the “reflections” of our natural world. My hope for this book is that it reaches some people who have asked these questions and keep looking for some answers.

It was simply fascinating for me to research several leading doctors, nutritionists and other leading experts in their fields to find that many had cured themselves or family members of major illnesses. This was a huge challenge to locate the right material to research with no medical background. Further I could have misfired and used the wrong approach that would have not worked and made me worse instead of better.

I did all of this research and rehab while suffering from a major illness, multiple sclerosis, more commonly referred to as MS. My stage of MS at the time I began rehab efforts was so severe that I was on medication where I had to give myself a shot once per week. I struggled severely to walk daily to the point I was ready to order a scooter to begin getting around, not for convenience. Walking to the mailbox or to put out the garbage required planning and being careful to avoid falling. I had several falls prior to rehab but these falls began to diminish with rehab.

This book tells you I rehabbed myself using a totally natural approach and survived total disability. Today I continue with many of the same things daily to maintain myself that I used in rehab.

My sequel just released in 6/2011 tells y0u how I am doing now as well as gives you some adjustments I have made based on my experiences.

STEPS ALONG THE HEALING PATH is for the person who wants to know about true self-healing, how to become his or her own self-healer. The AMA recently disclosed that one out of every eight dollars spent for medical care in this country is for "alternative" health care. It is clear that Americans are searching for the best methods available in health care. STEPS ALONG THE HEALING PATH teaches us to first look within to solve our health problems so we can gain access to the inner wisdom that is our birthright. It illustrates how many people have tapped into this inner wisdom and used it to find their own solutions to illnesses and other problems in their lives.

    Changing Attitudes Toward Alternative Medicine

For years, doctors who have dared to practice alternative medicine have been called quacks but recently there has been a changing attitude toward alternatives that is driven mostly by health consumers. Increasingly, unconventional therapies are being shown to have a basis in science and medical professionals are waking up to the fact that it often requires a blend of different approaches to achieve clinical success.

a pioneer in his field, Dr. W. Gene Schroeder has developed a patient-oriented holistic medical practice by thoroughly investigating and integrating a wide-range of alternative therapies. His book provides a record of his discoveries.

    Gentle, Effective Therapies

    This book covers:

  • Healing practices that will help you stay healthy
  • Subtle, invisible forces that play a role in consciousness and health
  • Microcurrent technology that works on "untreatable" conditions
  • Alternative therapies that provide a foundation in the field of holistic medicine
  • Health issues that threaten our future including cancer and mercury/root canals
  • Case studies about patients who have had medical breakthroughs
