The Agony of the Promised Land is an excellent introduction to the fascinating and complex history of Israel and Palestine. Starting with the story of Abraham, it guides the reader through each era of Israeli and Palestinian history in concise sections, written in a compelling and accessible style. Using a wide variety of sources, Joshua Levy demonstrates an excellent understanding of the historical and political problems from the early Biblical period to today and skillfully analyses the main obstacles for peace and suggests a beam of hope for the future. -Dr. Joanna Newman-Historian As in the case of Solomon, two peoples holding a tiny peace of land and each claiming it is theirs. But unlike Solomon's case, a land can be divided, which seems to be the only solution to the conflict; and yet the protagonists are as far as ever from reaching this obvious conclusion. Fanatic Jews want all the Biblical land, and fanatic Palestinians want 'all or nothing', and while on the Israeli camp some voices of reason and moderation can be heard, the Palestinians resorted to violence and terror, undermining their own cause. What are the chances of reconciliation under such circumstances? Is there any hope for peace?

Opium Traders-Volume Two continues the history of opium commerce at a point where the Sassoons of Persia, closely connected with the Rothchilds, won control of the trade. The Sassoons celebrated when the monopoly of the British East India Company was repealed; they used their business expertise and parliamentary connections in London to grab nearly 80% of the drug trade out of India. Connections with British royalty made possible their important involvement in securing Israel as the Jewish Homeland. The Sassoons' extensive holdings in India and China were encroached upon as a result of India's independence movement and China's takeover by communists. Indian independence strengthened the hold of the Parsee family of Tatas, who, in the 21st Century are advertising the development of a "People's car" estimated to cost about $2,500. China's takeover by communists, who now hold a monopoly of China's expansive opium trade, followed the Taiping and Boxer Rebellions and the revolution of Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-chek. These militant movements are summarized. Japan's exploitation of opium in the Manchuria-Manchukuo era, through secret societies, is detailed. The opium trade of East Asia and the Middle East is further elaborated in descriptions of the cultivation of poppies of Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Russia, Turkey, Burma, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Indonesian territories. Contemporary poppy fields of Mallinckrodt, opium and labor smuggling during the years of railroad building and Mafia activity in the United States are addressed.

This book represents twenty years of thought and research on perhaps the greatest Islamic monument in Spain- the Mosque of Cordoba. The unfolding of the mystery of its origin goes back to Atlantis when an era of world civilization made possible the birth of a community called Tartessos in Andalusia. This sophisticated society welcomed the trading Phoenicians in the 12th century BC. Together they designed and built essentially the structure that Islam adapted to their use as a mosque in the 8th century AD. But new evidence gathered by the architect, Marvin Mills, fails to support this contention as we examine the architecture and history of the building and realize that another provenance is indicated. Even the orientation of he mosque is suspect as it fails to orient to Mecca. And Carbon-14 dating indicates a much older attribution. Revelations such as these will make it impossible to continue as usual in the progress of the field of Spanish architecture, Phoenicians in the West, the reality of Atlantis without dealing with this new approach. Insights into the famous Alhambra in Granada and Madina Azahara, the palace-city outside of Cordoba, add to the new perspective by challenging their origins as well.

All Fall Down is the definitive chronicle of America’s experience with the Iranian revolution and the hostage crisis of 1978-81. Drawing on internal government documents, it recounts the controversies, decisions and uncertainties that made this a unique chapter in modern American history. From his personal experiences, the author draws revealing portraits of the people who engaged in this test of wills with an Islamic revolutionary regime. A page one review in the New York Times Book Review praised it as “convincing, fair and balanced.”

A scintillating analysis of the dangers of the Oslo Peace Process and the chance for the current crisis to lead to Israeli renewal and world peace. "Professor Narrett's articles are insightful, scholarly and graced by literary style and originality. He is a man of truth who displays impressive erudition in writing on the Israeli-Arab conflict." -Professor Paul Eidelberg, President, Foundation of Constitutional Democracy, author, Judaic Man, Jewish Statesmanship "Eugene Narrett writes with a great deal of knowledge and intelligence, and far more understanding of the issues than many so-called 'Middle East experts.'" -Professor Rael Jean Isaac, editor, The Outpost, author, Israel Divided "Professor Narrett is one of the few academics who has had a clear understanding of the dangers inherent in the "peace process" from the outset. His prophetic writings lucidly present complex issues, displaying profound understanding, depth of feeling and love of Israel. We are fortunate to have this extraordinary collection, an invaluable resource to the concerned reader." -Helen Freedman, Executive Director, Americans for a Safe Israel "One of the most prolific and intelligent Zionist thinkers in the United States today, Eugene Narrett's comments on the politics of the Middle East should be required reading. His keen eye and sharp wit make him a great American and Jewish resource." -Professor Steven Plaut, University of Haifa "I have avidly followed Professor Narrett's work. His scintillating analysis will be proved right after all the politicians and international statesmen will be shown to have been dead wrong. His wise and insightful writings are a badge of courage." -Miriam Samsonowitz, Studio Har Chotzvim, Jerusalem, Israel

Many people in the West have concluded that Islam is inherently a very violent religion, based largely on the upsurge of radical Islam and its willingness to use indiscriminate violence to drive its message. What is more worrying to most though is the seemingly "tacit" approval of most Muslims of this strategy manifested by the lack of strong condemnations from the broader Muslim community. With its close proximity to the Middle East and North Africa and its cultural and commercial ties to the US and the Americas, Europe has naturally become the new logistical center of radical Islam. The book gives an insight of mostly Muslim residents of four major European cities-Amsterdam, Paris, Munich and London-on the causes and effects of terrorism, their role in that struggle, where things are likely headed and some possible solutions to what some have described as a "clash of civilizations". All exchanges between the author and respondents are outlined-straightforward and unfiltered-as they occurred, with some relevant background information to help clarify the particular situation being discussed. It is worth noting that there is no support or indictment of any religion from the author's perspective although it is very interesting to find out how religion is used to justify-sometimes implicitly-the views of the respondents.

The BritishSoviet occupation of Iran in 1941 provided Joseph Stalin with a golden opportunity to fulfill an age-old dream nurtured by Russian rulers since Peter the Great, a dream of getting closer to the warm waters of the Persian Gulf. Where others had failed, Stalin was determined to succeed. Occupied by the USSR and Great Britain during World War II, Iran was the most secure route for transferring military goods, supplies, foodstuff, and other war materials to the Soviet Union. However, the USSR tried to take advantage of the situation and create its own puppet government in the Iranian province of Azerbaijan, leading to the Azerbaijan Crisis of 1946. Iran in the Claws of the Bear: The Failed Soviet Land Grab of 1946 focuses on the struggle among three great powers-the United States of America, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union-and the much weaker Iran. Authors Hooshang Talé and Farhad Talé emphasize Iran's role in forcing the Soviets to end the occupation of Iranian land and return to the USSR.

While Teaching a course on Human Rights Laws and Islam, some of my students approached me asking for some short read on Islamic law and Islamic civilization. Considering the topic of the course, it was hard finding a book that is small yet relevant to the issues discussed in class. Then I found this manuscript sitting on the shelf for years. I offered it to couple students who read it and recommended that I make available in some form, as they have learned from it quite a lot in spite of the highly technical orientation of the materials contained therein. I spent few days reviewing it only to discover that Professor Khallaf did indeed offer quite an original analysis and perspective on a number of issues that are relevant today. I then decided to put this document in the public domain, hoping that students and scholars alike find it of use.

During the 1970s, Alexandre Hageboutros grew up in Lebanon and experienced firsthand the ravages of war. While attempting to cling to some semblance of childhood, he developed the fortitude to survive the turmoil in his homeland and the hope of starting a new life in a land of opportunity. When he began college, he met Ghada, the love of his life, and he became more determined than ever to create a better future. Alexandre came to the United States at the age of twenty-four, influenced heavily by his family upbringing, his Catholic faith, and his medical education. The ongoing war in Lebanon had robbed him of much of the innocence of childhood and of many cherished friends and family members, but he was determined to begin anew, to create a joyous, peaceful life for himself and his family. No More Wars, Please: My Journey from Lebanon to America is an engaging memoir of a man to whom war was an everyday occurrence. Hageboutros openly shares the effects of war upon him and his family, how he established his oncology practice and insights concerning his view on how to achieve peace in a world torn by wars.
