An Historical Examination of Irish Literature and Authors explores the extremely rich Irish literary tradition from the earliest times (over 6000 years ago) through the four Nobel Prize winners for Literature from the twentieth century. Topics discussed include the oral traditions and folktales of the Celtic/Gaelic peoples, gaelic literature, the fantastic illuminated manuscripts produced during the Christian monastic period, the literature of resistence against foreign oppression, the Irish literary revival at the turn of the twentieth century, and the great wealth of perhaps the most highly developed body of poetry on earth. The work includes forty biographical renderings discussing such authors as St. Patrick, Jonathan Swift, Oliver Goldsmith, Edmund Burke, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett, Seamus Heaney, and others.

By W. Reed Quilliam, Texas Tech Law School Foundation, Texas Tech
Only rarely are the complete facts of an educational institution's history available to later generations of scholars, students, and the general public. In this volume, W. Reed Quilliam, Jr., has provided the facts of the creation and early operation of the Texas Tech University School of Law beginning with the dream of Al Allison, self-described as a "Levelland country lawyer", for the establishment of a law school at Texas Tech. Quilliam, as a member of the Texas Legislature, was in a position to see enacted the 1965 legislation that authorized the funding for the new law school. He then joined the faculty of the school and served in that capacity from 1966 to 1995. This volume includes the details of the selection of the first Dean, Richard B. Amandes, the assembling of the initial faculty and staff, and the creation of the initial law library. But beyond that, Quilliam provides an insider's look at faculty politics, the methods used to attract good students, and the successes of the fledging law school in producing graduates who not only could pass the state bar examinations with ease, but also could become effective members of the legal profession. Quilliam's history gives us not only the history of a single law school, but also shows us what is involved in the creation and successful growth of any American law school. -Daniel H. Benson

This book chronicles the most important events that have shaped our world in the context of what the media reported on that day, as compared to the viewpoint to-day. This work is in two volumes, of which this book is the second volume. The subject matter is handled by listing the specific day when the event occurred, going through the calendar a day at a time throughout the year. What is clearly evident is an extraordinary change in values and the concept of what is considered to be right and what is wrong over the last half century. Has the pendulum swung too far and will it swing back or are we, in the Western World, in continual decline both morally and economically? The USA has been the land of opportunity, but home grown Liberals are now increasingly sapping the strength of the USA. This book chronicles the destruction of our traditional Christian values and the moral decline of the USA. It gives an insight into the developing world and the failure of the USA to sustain world leadership. The USA seems to be incapable or willing to continue to wear the mantle that England wore for centuries until Socialist Britain handed the mantle over in the 1940s. When I came to the USA in 1970, the man in the street on seeing a Cadillac, vowed to be in one in another ten years. To-day, increasingly, the desire is to get the 'privileged' out of their Mercedes and BMWs.

STARTLING EVIDENCE THE EXPERTS IGNORE ... The arrowhead hunter descended a flight of stone steps leading from the cave floor to a chamber below. In this chamber were a number of stone boxes. He opened several of them and found they contained thin metal plates bearing characters in a script unfamiliar to him. But the chamber contained another surprise as well -- two huge stone sarcophagi. He removed the lids and beheld the mummified remains of individuals he estimated were about 9 feet tall. Remnants of leathery skin still clung to the bones, and the remaining patches of hair on the heads suggested one had been a blonde and the other a redhead.
