From the heart and souls of Fort Osage Seniors in Independence, Missouri, comes a true glimpse of what it is like to be a high school student on the brink of graduation as they totter on the line between adulthood and adolescence. This collection of poetry will open your eyes as you gaze into these heart-rending, profound thoughts of these young minds and journey deep within their lives only to realize that each of them have a story to tell and dreams to come to fruition. Fort Osage High School is a school steeped in historical tradition of settlers and Native Americans struggling for order in their lives. Mrs. Farmer, in her first year at the Fort, rallied her students to write well and reveal that which is important to them whether in word or deed. This amalgam of work is her students' last effort to provide a glimpse through their eyes.

By Grand Street Settlement
This book brings together the work of some of the most insightful, introspective and intelligent, yet often disregarded voices in New York City, its urban youth. These voices are expressed in this collection of poems, raps and short stories and are a window into the complex and often difficult experience of adolescence. These authors are high school and junior high school students that are enrolled in Grand Street Settlement's Community Achievement Project in the Schools (CAPS). The primary goal of the CAPS program is to help students overcome barriers to attending school and to provide them with youth development and skill building opportunities. Grand Street Settlement has implemented this program in the five different schools represented in this book; School for Legal Studies, Norman Thomas High School, Louis D. Brandeis High School, Automotive High School and Middle School 61. These young people have come together and shared a piece of their lives as they continue to persevere through various hardships, express their creativity and shine their light.

"George Forrest has spent a lifetime absorbing events, experiences, and emotions of both humanity and nature. His poetry gives it all back, word pictures that, like a good photograph, recall images of a time we shall never see again."-Ken Reyher, Poet-Author, Olathe, Co. "George Forrest, in his new collection, speaks in straightforward, home-spun language with a minimum of excess. His shorter poems cut right to the marrow of meaning, his longer ones become narrative woven with philosophy and a not-quite expected ending. They fit together like photos in an old family album."-Margery Peck, Poetess-Author, Las Cruces, NM. I am excited about presenting to you my poetry. Hopefully your reading these words will bring fun, excitement, a bit of wisdom and a lot of warm feelings and pleasure. Relax and enjoy.

Unforgiving Twilight They were toxic to his body, His skin and my heart. I thought our love was unbreakable Indestructible, eternal. Those chemicals drank his blood. They made him think that He could soar through the heavens. It was a graceful plunge Into the deep, thick pool below. The Serpent hands grasped for His delicate insides. Pink floated in the wavy water And I cried rivers of broken promises. He once told me "until the end," I stared at his mangled body And whispered "you lied." The days turned colder, darker And I craved his warmth. So I curled my fingers Over the elusive dust And kept it under the covers. My brightly shining starlight, Please help me forget How my reflections flickered in those needy eyes. Because here I sink deeper Into your dirty, unforgiving lie.

(Continued from the back of Cre8 Waves) May your life be full of bright colors, minimizing all of your sorrows. May your life be full of little rainbows, maximizing all of your tomorrows. May you also meet a Rainbow of People of all nationalities and creeds. May the encounters expand your horizons and plant unifying seeds.

"Rainbow" (Continued from the back cover of Chasing Seagulls-Book II) Throughout the epoch of 5064, Purple is the color of the zone. Imperatively mapping things out and hopefully you're not sailing alone. During the 65+ stage of the game the color reverts back to Red. Once an adult, twice a child, even though you sleep in a larger bed.

"Rainbow" (Continued from the back cover of Chasing Seagulls-Book I) Throughout the period of 3039, Green is the color chosen. This is a time for planning, not a time to feel frozen. During the 4049 stretch, contemplate this as the color of Blue. Getting over your mid-life crisis, is necessary in this hue.

"Rainbow" Consider the colors of a rainbow as your life in stages. Quite unlike looking up something in the Yellow Pages. During the span of infancy to 12 years, the color chosen is Red. This is a carefree time, usually, as your brain develops in your head.
