Language is a passport to a culture. Slang, probably the most lively part of a language, is especially so. Understanding of a culture's slang is a great lens through which to know the authentic life of the members in that culture. Slang can also serve to spice up conversations with these members.

In this light, a collection is made of undergraduate college students' slang-by college students themselves. For authenticity, more attention is given to comprehensiveness than to political correctness, although racist terms are avoided. This concise collection promises to give you a better understanding of and a closer connection with undergraduate college students.

I write for healing and inspiration. The Chicano Bible is about growing up in Los Angeles, California. The Chicano Bible is about the trials, heartaches, and tribulations that teenagers face. I included poetry in a chapter. The Chicano Bible consists of short easy essays targeted at the young Chicano minds that need God in there lives to help them get through difficult times. The Chicano Bible is my confession and personal battle with alcoholism, I am a new person now and if God can use me he can use you too.The Chicano Bible is a fusion of my volunteer work throughout Southern California, attempting to prevent self-destructive behavior among children and youth not realizing that I too needed help. I founded Barrio Arte in Oceanside, California after having survived the cancerous and often deadly "barrio" warfare that I saw in Los Angeles. The Chicano Bible is a compilation of short stories, poetry, pictures, and God's illumination, strength, hope, and power. I am currently working on a project with the Oceanside Public Library on the history of the East Side Neighborhood. I will be giving a presentation on youth gangs, book signing and writing workshop in May 2009. I went to Los Angeles to promote The Chicano Bible on the streets. I handed out flyers to individuals who were passing by the downtown area. I had fun talking to some people and I visited a restaurant that sells Chinese food. I know a lady with a beautiful smile that works there. I also browesed around and bought my son Dennis some size four tennis shoes. Right now I am feeling a little depressed because I am trying to grow in my spiritual walk with the Lord and I keep trying to figure out what is going to happen with my relationship with Reyna and my family. A friend from The University of Phoenix told me that relationships get repaired after divorce. I felt better when I heard the good news.

It seems like kids are always hearing stories about America in the "good old days." But, in fact, the 1950s and 1960s were not as carefree as they sometimes seem. Through fascinating stories, advertisements, facts and photographs, Norman H. Finkelstein invites people of all generations to decide for themselves. The New York Times Book Review said this book is " useful for inquiring young researchers looking for odd angles and, ideally might even provoke talk between young readers and parents."

Edward R. Murrow was one of America's "most dedicated and eloquent spokesmen. The people of the free world are deeply in his debt. So is broadcast journalism, which, in so many ways, he helped establish and to which he was one of the finest practitioners. He set standards of excellence that remain unsurpassed. His thoughtful spirit of inquiry, his profound insight and his single-minded devotion to quality were without parallel in radio, television or any other medium."

The Australian Outback is largely unchanged since Red Earth, Blue Sky was first published in 1981. Some roads are improved. Some stations (ranches) have televisions and telephones. Many still rely on the two-way radio. The harsh conditions in the vast Outback continue to restrict man’s innovations there. Red Earth, Blue Sky was cited by the World Council of Churches for furthering the brotherhood of man.

"In one of the few young adult books about growing up Native American today, teenagers from the Mohawk, Anishnabe (Ojibway), Quinault, Shinnecock, Cherokee, and Pueblo peoples speak candidly about family, school, community, dating, religion, sports, work, etc. Many are honor students, and their voices are upbeat, although almost all tell of some family and friends with drug and alcohol problems. Teens everywhere will recognize the conflict in living between two cultures: the struggle to stay close to your roots but also to be part of the mainstream. We need more contemporary books like this."
