As Arnie grew older, his sneer grew larger, and to those in his church, it became almost a historical landmark. It crawled up the right side of his face, exposing his back teeth and causing his right eye to lower, as if he were winking. Families who passed him on the playground or at the shopping mall stood in awe at the sight of it. Parents stared. Children turned away in fright. Often a mother, grabbing her son by the arm, would point to Arnie and say, "See that kid? You are to have nothing to do with him. Do you hear?"

Feeling as though he has a new lease on life, teenager Arnie Shultz is all set to begin another school year-his freshman year of college-preaching at a Catholic school on the California coast. But Arnie's gospel is different from the one Jesus taught-while Jesus brought the Kingdom of God to earth, Arnie brings his own vision to campus.

Demonic visitations, occult powers, witchcraft, and spritual warfare are just some of the elements that make The Magic Store Across the Street such a thriller. However, The Magic Store Across the Street doesn't simply chill kids with horror, it also provides an important warning that all families must hear.

The Magic Store Across the Street is the second book in Casner Curran's Across the Street series. It is the story of Daniel, a tough eighth-grader, who is in much more danger than anyone realizes. The action only intensifies when Daniel's sixth-grade brother, Cesar, and his best friend, Byron, try to help the older boy escape from spiritual oppression.

Besides the story of Byron and Cesar's friendship, the novel looks at parenting, family, and faith. The Magic Store Across the Street presents a story that kids and parents are sure to love.

Fortified with their overwhelming verbal support, Megog dipped his muscled shoulder and shot forward. Quickly I dodged to the right, but he had anticipated my very move and crashed straight into my chest. He had guessed my path of escape. With a loud thud, my back slammed the mat and my head bounced off the hard rubber surface. Starbursts of pain rocketed through my brain like a meteor shower. I lay there dazed, unable to move.

The crowd jumped to their feet and cheered! Megog had executed a brilliant combination move. This society's love of violence in sport was particularly keen.

Pulling myself to my knees, I couldn't breathe. My eyes refused to focus and all I could see was a colorful kaleidoscope of fuzzy objects. My head felt like it was in a hot steel vice that someone was tightening. Again, I gasped for air, but none came. I knew what would happen next and tried to raise my arms to defend myself, but my body rebelled. My brain couldn't activate my muscles. "Dear Jesus," was all I could say before I fell to the mat in an unconscious heap.

Peter's world is a lawless society of darkness and violence. At 21, he has no hope for the future. Life inside the mountain caves of Auchmeros is hard; food is scarce. There is no protection for the weak and only the strong survive.

Just before his initiation into a violent gang, a stranger who glows from within approaches Peter. Andrew offers to lead Peter to a better place. He claims there is a world outside the caves filled with light and plenty of food. Contrary to his fear, Peter decides to find out for himself and follow Andrew.

In Thélo, Peter discovers light, fresh fruit and vegetables, friendship, and the gracefully attractive, Karis! But can Peter live according to Thélo's lifeguides? Does he, a descendant of the king's enemies, have the right to enjoy such a place?

Only King Elzene can show Peter the truth and teach him that feather clumps are really wings for flying.
