Michelle, a 15-year-old with more responsibility than most, gets sent, along with her two brothers, to live with her Aunt Karen when her father gets deployed on an eight month Navy assignment. She dreads having her life uprooted once again. When she has to leave the city life to move to farm country in rural Pennsylvania, she thinks she’s entered another world. She has – just not the one she anticipated. She soon finds her life entwined with a crow and her Cherokee ancestors, Fala and Cheveyo, who were forced to endure the “Trail of Tears.” Strange and vivid dreams start to invade Michelle’s sleep and even stranger experiences become part of her waking hours. She seeks guidance from her mystically-minded Aunt Sandra to get explanations for what’s taking place. Some of those answers come from an Oneida Indian medicine man called Grandfather. The rest must come from her awareness. She must keep Grandfather’s words in mind always, “You will know your purpose when it is time.”

“Holy cow, this better be a dream!” I yelled ... “Mom’s joke about summer camp follies in Africa has come true.” My adventure started with a nightmarish dream. People wore masks, talked in pidgin English, and performed witchcrafts. They behaved as though they were possessed by evil spirits. That reminded me of Dad’s stories about the Naked Devil Dancer who came out of the forest to perform at dusk. I took these as mere stories—fictitious legends—until now! A legend said that the Naked Devil Dancer—a barely clothed genie—wore different face masks and only a Speedo-type suit covering his private body parts. Often, his arrival was dramatic, with black birds, such as vultures and crows, flying overhead. In many cultures, these were signs of demons. Have you seen your Guardian Angel recently? Any angels at all? Well, angels aren’t just in Heaven; they’re everywhere! In The Sahara Desert Angel—the second book in this novel series, Crystal travels to Africa to see her extended family. As she learns about her culture and traditions in a remote village without running water or electricity, she is led to Aziza, and then to her mythical sister Cassandra. Crystal’s African journey further inspires her active, inquisitive mind when she uses her love of education and nature to uncover the origin of Africa’s biggest mystery. Readers will delight in the storytelling, knowledge, and eye-popping adventures.
